I was first introduced to Pilates when I attended my first Pilates class in 2002. Pilates became an essential element to my life allowing me to improve my overall strength and muscle balance.
I made the decision to pursue a career in Pilates and in 2004 qualified as a Pilates Instructor and in 2009 I opened my own studio The Pilates Room.
I am a qualified Body Arts and Science International instructor. I have always been interested in human movement and the way our bodies carry us in this world. To borrow a phrase from a book by Thérèse Bertherat and Carol Bernstein “Our bodies have a reason”. There are strengths and weaknesses in all bodies. Through retraining of the muscles a state of muscular balance becomes achievable and likewise balance on other levels of being human.
The Pilates Method does exactly that. My personal journey with Pilates started only after having established a family and it was a privilege to me to be able to do the Body Arts and Science International Teacher Training course with the support and encouragement of my family. Now I have the joy of helping people on a daily basis to find balance.
I have been in the Pilates industry since 2012 after completing my BASI Pilates training and a degree in BA(HMS) Human Movement Science. Since then, I have done workshops in movement analyses, injuries and pathologies and had further training in pregnancy and Pilates. I loves going through the journey of pregnancy and the recovery thereafter with my clients. I also enjoy seeing people discover what their bodies are capable of and how they learn more about their bodies through Pilates. I believe that movement heals and that everyone should feel free to move to the limits of their own bodies.
My passion and appreciation of Pilates started whilst I was completing my National Dance Diploma at Tshwane University of Technology. Pilates was
one of the subjects.
Having being a student of ballet since the age of three and later adding acrobatics and various other forms of dance, it was immediately apparent how beneficial Pilates is to overall body alignment, precision, flexibility and strength.
I then went on to complete my Pilates course at Top Condition SA with Andrew and Debra Gush. I thereafter went on to learn from and teach alongside various experienced instructors, as well as completing further courses in Sports Specific training, Body Conditioning and pre- and post- natal Pilates.
I love teaching Pilates as it is rewarding to witness the progress, benefits and mind / body awareness developing before me in the clients that that I teach.
